Being on Time,

Please know that your appointment is booked for a certain time slot. if you are late, your appointment cannot be extended to make up for lost time. Please try to arrive on time if not 5mins early. If you are more than 15mins late without letting us know, your appointment is considered cancelled and your deposit is lost.

Deposits,

All appointments require a deposit of $50. Deposits can be made over the phone or in person, this is to secure you time slot. If you do not make a deposit before you appointment date, your appointment may be given to someone else who is willing to pay a deposit. If you do not show to your appointment, or you give us less than 24 hours notice of cancellation you will lose your deposit.

Designs,

Your appointment is booked for a certain amount of time to do your tattoo, if you decide that you want a different design, or want your design bigger, please let us know so we can adjust the time needed to do the work. If you do not let us know then your appointment may be cancelled due to lack of time needed to do the work.

If you are using your own design please bring it either printed, on USB or email it to us prior to your appointment. Do not bring it on your phone or laptop with no way of accessing the file for printing.

Please advise us of any medical conditions that may affect you during your tattoo, we are not doctors and if you are on medication that may affect you, please seek professional advice from your doctor prior to making an appointment with us

Please only bring 1 friend with you to your appointment, it can be very distracting for you and the tattooist to have too many people around

Please do not bring babies or small children into the shop

Please be prepared to turn off your phone or at least put it on silent

Be respectful and use your common sense.

All of this is to ensure that no one time is wasted, and your appointment runs as smoothly as possible

Welcome to Vanity Body Art

Opened in 2009 Vanity Body Art is a professional tattoo studio  owned and operated by tattoo artist Nicole Draeger, where we specialise in custom traditional designs. It’s a clean friendly environment, we have regular health inspections and new needles for each customer. We also have eftpos and air conditioning / heating.

We are now also selling a range of piercing jewelery, and aftercare creams for looking after your new tattoo.

Instead of copying and reproducing tattoo flash that has been done a million times. We believe every person has the right to their own unique artwork, so we have a portfolio of personal artwork that people are welcome to choose from for their next tattoo or feel free to bring in your own reference pictures and we can create a custom design for you

If you cant get to the shop, email a picture or description of the design, approximate size and placement of the tattoo to nicole@vanitybodyart.com for a rough quote, but to make an appointment you MUST call the shop.

PREPARATION

WHAT TO EXPECT

Tattoos do hurt and there is little way around that, but it is not as painful as you might think. When getting a professional tattoo done its described as a more of a burning sensation, to get a feeling for what you might expect drag your finger nail across you skin this should give you an idea of what it may feel like. As for pain, pinch your skin between your fingernails and that is about the level of pain you can expect from a tattoo.

Keep in mind that some areas of the body will be more painful than others, so talk to your artist if you have questions.

Make sure to have something to eat before your appointment, and it helps to bring a drink along with you.

If you are on medications make sure you check with your doctor before getting tattooed, and you can not be tattooed if you are pregnant

AFTERCARE

Your skin art has been hygienically applied with sterile equipment. To preserve a fresh unfaded result, it is essential to avoid infection during the healing period. Always wash your hands before applying cream or touching the new tattoo.Your new tattoo will take from 5 to 10 days to heal, the healing time is related to the amount of physical damage to the skin and moisture in the area. The skin must be moisturised and protected from the damaging UV rays of the sun.

WASH
After your skin art has been hygienically applied your artist will cover with a dressing to protect the artwork until you get home. It is at this point that the initiation of scab formation occurs. Under the dressing, the weeping tattoo allows blood platelets to begin collecting on the surface of the skin.

To prevent further formation of a scab it is necessary to remove the blood platelets. Remove the dressing and wash the fresh tattoo ( within 1 hour preferred) in warm running water(shower) using an antibacterial soap DO NOT USE A BAR OF SOAP as it can contain bacteria.

After washing rinse thoroughly. DO NOT USE a wash cloth or sponge. Pat dry. DO NOT RUB OR SCRATCH. Wash you new tattoo once or twice a day until the tattooed skin heals. After drying wait 40-60 minutes to allow excess water in the tattoo to evaporate and inflammation to subside.

APPLY CREAM
Apply Bepanthen cream. Always wash your hands before applying cream or touching the tattoo. Evenly apply cream over the tattooed skin. Use only as much cream as the skin will absorb. Rub cream in gently as this will help stimulate the skin and bring blood flow to the area which helps in the body’s natural healing process.

DO NOT leave a thick film on the surface. Most people experience a mild tingling sensation after the first few applications, this is quite normal. Apply cream 2 to 3 times a day or as necessary to keep the tattoo slightly moist. DO NOT allow the skin to dry out. Wear clean clothes. Avoid close fitting clothes as they may absorb cream and dry the freshly tattooed skin. If you suffer from any allergies, seek advice from your GP and advise your body artist. Discontinue use of any product should irritation occur.

AVOID
During the healing period:
Sunbathing. Chlorine. Soaking in a bath. Unwashed clothes. Touching with unwashed hands. Scratching. Salt Water. Oral Contact. Swimming.

MOISTURISING
When your body art is fully healed apply a moisturising cream regularly to rejuvenate and hydrate the skin and retain the quality of the artwork. Use a plain non scented moisturising cream regularly

SUNSCREEN
Use a SPF 30+ broad spectrum Sunscreen whenever you expose your body to the sun. Regular use can aid in the prevention of premature skin ageing, pigment fading and skin cancer.
